Ensure your GEAR AID knife stays ready for years of use by following the simple safety tips and care instructions below.

To Release Knife from Sheath:

Grip knife handle firmly. Use thumb to depress one side of release tab on back of sheath, then pull knife free from sheath.

Tips to Clean and Care for Knife:

All stainless steel knife blades will rust over time, especially if you are in a damp or marine environment. Always rinse knife with fresh water, then dry and oil the blade after it is exposed to salt water or salt spray.

To help stop corrosion, GEAR AID knives should be oiled occasionally with tool oil, a lubricant that is specially formulated to prevent rust. If using the knife for food preparation, use food grade oil/lubricants.

ADDITIONAL TIP: Use steel wool (Grade "0" or Grade "00") to gently remove minor rusting on knife blade.

If desired, the handle can be removed from the blade for thorough cleaning.

Step 1: Wrap blade in masking tape to prevent damaging the titanium coating.

Step 2: Use a 2.5 mm hex wrench to remove the two fasteners on the handle.

Step 3: Place wrapped blade in the jaws of a vise (i.e., a tool with two jaws used to hold an object firmly) and carefully pull handle free from the blade.

NOTE: Do not attempt to pull knife apart by hand.

To reassemble, insert wrapped blade back into knife handle using the vise and remove the masking tape off the blade then reattach fasteners.
